Forty-three roadside bollards in orderly rows fill a fenced gravel lot on the north edge of Mercer Switch just off State Route 214, where the Regional Bollard Demonstration Grounds display concrete, recycled-plastic, reflective steel, one timber pilot model, and a short-lived hexagonal type the county reportedly stopped ordering in 1998. A hand-painted sign attributes the site to the Mid-Ark Corridor Safety Resource Committee, though maintenance now appears to fall to the county road department and whichever civic volunteer group is rotating litter pickup that month. The hook is not the bollards themselves so much as the persistence of the place. Several pieces still carry small metal tags listing installation dates, impact ratings, and supplier names, suggesting the lot began as a procurement comparison yard rather than a public attraction. One interpretive panel is missing, and the locked brochure box was empty on the last reported visit.
