The Museum of Retired Checkout Dividers
Forty-seven plastic and aluminum checkout lane dividers, each labeled for a supermarket, pharmacy, or farm supply store that no longer uses that exact divider format, are displayed in a former insurance office on the service road outside Pine Bluffs Junction. The room appears to be maintained by the Mid-Michigan Retail Fixtures Preservation Circle, whose name is applied on vinyl lettering to the front window in a way that suggests either a grant or a determined nephew. The hook is a handwritten note beneath Divider No. 12, from a defunct IGA in Veston Creek, stating that it was "the last local example with cigarette-price channel intact." Several reports mention that the museum is open only during the town's Saturday indoor market and that the proprietor will unlock a back case if asked about the disputed origin of a divider marked EXPRESS 8 ITEMS, later amended by tape to 10.
Turn Signal Test Arbor No. 1
The September demonstration weekend is the one time motorists were once invited to practice proper signaling before entering the state trunkline at the Rural Turn Signal Test Arbor, a roofed, open-sided lane arrangement standing at the south edge of Pinery Junction. The structure is apparently maintained by the Pine County Road Improvement Association, which still repaints the directional arrows and keeps a chain across the far bay except during the September demonstration weekend. The arbor consists of three short paved channels, overhead indicator boards, and a wood-framed observation deck with a hand-lettered rule about arm signals in convertibles. Several sources place its construction in the early 1950s, though the exact status of the land transfer from the former produce cooperative remains unclear.
