The Parallel Parking Training Median

A 312-foot landscaped median built in 1994 as a permanent public demonstration lane for parallel parking stands in the center of a former county fairgrounds access road in Marlowe Circle. It is maintained, somewhat sternly, by the East Mercer Driver Readiness Council, which still posts seasonal cone spacing diagrams on a weatherproof board near the curb. The attraction consists of two full-length mock curbside parking bays, instructional signage, and a cast-aluminum plaque noting that the original painted measurements were revised after a state examiner objected to what meeting minutes call "overly optimistic sedan assumptions." The south turnout was reportedly restriped in 2008, though the county website lists no regular public hours.
