Juniper Wells Detour Map Kiosk

A roofed public kiosk containing a large hand-updated map of detours that no longer appear to be in effect stands at the north edge of Juniper Wells beside a frontage road and a closed seasonal welcome booth. The structure is reportedly maintained by the Mid-Rio Regional Access Committee, which still posts laminated route arrows after wind events. The kiosk was apparently installed in 1998 during a prolonged bridge rehabilitation program on State Route 44, then retained after merchants argued that travelers had become accustomed to stopping there for orientation and vending-machine use. The present map includes at least three color codes, two advisory legends, and one lockbox whose key location remains unclear.
